The .xyz community is home to skilled professionals using .xyz to showcase their work, passions, and career experiences. Author and researcher Nadia Asparouhova uses Nadia.xyz to share her projects exploring tech’s influence on society. Science communicator Lauren Richardson uses LRBio.xyz to highlight her work with biotech companies. Content marketer and writer Allaire Conte showcases her portfolio on Allaire.xyz. In this week’s #WebsiteWednesday, we’ll introduce you to a mathematics educator who shares interactive visualizations and learning tools through his personal project hub: DynamicMath.xyz.

Meet the mathematician behind DynamicMath.xyz

DynamicMath.xyz is the online home of Dynamic Mathematics, the personal website of Brisbane, Australia-based mathematician Dr. Juan Carlos Ponce Campuzano. He teaches mathematics and focuses on the development of online learning modules and interactive applets designed to support mathematics and physics education. In addition to teaching, Juan Carlos experiments with programming languages like p5.js and Processing to create visual and interactive mathematical content.

Explore interactive visualizations and mathematical simulations

Dynamic Mathematics showcases a broad collection of interactive sketches and simulations that explore mathematical and physical concepts. Visitors can experiment with visual tools like domain coloring, Fourier epicycles, and strange attractors. One of the more recent highlights is a set of interactive Chladni Pattern simulations, which visualize the vibration modes of a rigid surface. Inspired by the historic experiments of Ernst Chladni, this project invites users to adjust variables such as frequency and elasticity to see how different parameters affect the formation of nodal patterns on a plate. The simulation also offers background information and mathematical models behind the visualizations.

DynamicMath.xyz: A natural fit for a 3D-focused math hub

The choice of .xyz reflects the website’s broad scope and alignment with 3D-oriented content. With .xyz often associated with coordinates in three-dimensional space, DynamicMath.xyz leverages the domain to reinforce its focus on spatial visualizations and interactive simulations. The short and flexible nature of the domain also supports the site’s modern and creative approach to math education. We had the opportunity to speak with Juan Carlos about the decision to build on .xyz. He told us,

“I chose the .xyz domain for my website because it felt like the perfect fit for the kind of work I do. A big part of my time goes into making 2D and 3D math visualizations to explore and communicate mathematical ideas. So using .xyz just made sense. It’s a simple, clever nod to the coordinate axes, and a great way to reflect what the site is all about: sharing dynamic math ideas with my students and anyone else who’s curious.”

You can learn more about Juan Carlos by following him on X/Twitter and GitHub, and by visiting DynamicMath.xyz.
